A special cohousing neighborhood is being planned in the Sierra foothills. Wolf Creek Lodge, designed for active adults will be next-door to an inter-generational cohousing, Wolf Creek Commons. The Lodge group just completed the design work with the architect, Charles Durrett and are accepting new members.
The wooded site enjoys a hillside that drops away from the road, runs along Wolf Creek and is walkable to all kinds of shopping, grocery stores, restaurants, and a short walk or bike ride to historic downtown Grass Valley. Of the 7.9 acres total, nearly half will be preserved as natural habitat.
The Lodge will have underground parking, elevator access and enjoy the site’s proximity to nearby retail, the woods and Wolf Creek. These homes are envisioned for adults mostly age 50 and older, and modeled after concepts in local architect Chuck Durrett’s new book Senior Cohousing. “Baby boomers are not content with what institutions have to offer; they are taking charge of their own aging process so they can age in community. The key is starting to plan early enough that you have choices,” says Durrett.
Wolf Creek Lodge will have 3O condominiums, ranging in price from the mid $200,000's to the high $400,000's. The community will enjoy very generous common facilities, and will incorporate environmentally sustainable design and low toxic materials.
Future residents will be involved in the planning, creation and management of their neighborhood, building community from the inside out. We anticipate a three-year timeline, from group formation to move-in.
